While Benalmadena is best known for its coastal tourist area with a plentiful supply of hotels and recreation facilities, it also has a traditional Spanish village. Benalmadena boasts a very convenient location on the Costa del Sol – just 11 km from Malaga Airport and 20 km from Malaga city, which can be accessed by road, train or bus. It enjoys a balmy Mediterranean climate, with an average annual temperature of 22 º; and cooling sea breezes make the summer heat manageable.
Benalmadena is split into three very distinct areas:
Benalmádena Costa: With over 8 km of coastline, this area features lovely beaches, numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and shops along the sea promenade
Benalmádena Pueblo: Set back from the bustling coast at an elevation of 200 metres, the old village has still managed to retain its traditional white-village flavour of quaint narrow streets adorned with geranium pots, picturesque squares sheltered by orange and palm trees. There is also an ample supply of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Arroyo de la Miel: This area links the old town to the coast, and has grown into a bustling centre for eating, shopping and recreation. The train line linking Fuengirola and Malaga has a stop in Arroyo de la Miel. Recreation facilities include a skating rink, Tivoli World Attraction Park and the 18-hole Torrequebrada Golf course –just 10 minutes away.
Benalmadena also boasts a beautiful marina, rated amongst the best in the world and with good selection of shop, bars and restaurants plus a vibrant nightlife.
