Located in the south western part of the province of Malaga, Casares is both a town and municipality and is split into 2 distinct areas:
Casares Costa: Located beachside, this is a bustling residential area full of restaurants, bars and a shopping mall. It offers the relaxed lifestyle of the Costa del Sol and is surrounded by several golf courses such as Duquesa Golf & Country Club, Valderrama (Sotogrande) and Alcaidesa Links Golf in San Roque. The area is also home to the Finca Cortesin resort, comprising a championship golf course, a 5-star hotel and a spectacular beach club serving exquisite Mediterranean cuisine. It is also within a short distance of Estepona, Sotogrande and Gibraltar. Sandy beaches dotted with beach restaurants stretch along from Estepona in the east to Sotogrande and Gibraltar in the west. It boasts a balmy Mediterranean climate with average summer temperatures of 32º tempered by sea breezes and average winter temperatures of 15-16º.
Casares Pueblo: Located inland some 430 metres above sea-level, is the “Hanging Village” of Casares, famous for its sugar-cube houses piled precariously high on a cliff crowned by a Moorish castle. It affords stunning views of the surrounding valleys and rolling hills stretching from the Ronda mountains down to the Bay of Algeciras and Gibraltar. Casares has a varied gastronomy. Head to any of the local restaurants to enjoy the hearty chickpea soup or their famous gazpacho. Casares is also famous for its goat cheese, handmade by the Quesería Sierra Crestellina cheese company.
